Indiana Gazette News
"Dennis Peck, the owner
of an auto service business in Falls Creek, Jefferson County (www.votepeck.com),
is unopposed for the Democratic nomination in the 66th House
District.
Peck said he supports term limits of 12 years for state
representatives and 16 years for state senators, calling for
their enactment in a limited constitutional convention.
He also said legislators' priorities should be handling major
challenges confronting the state, including a predicted $750
million budget deficit and a shortage of $450 million in funds
for roads and bridges.
``The money needs to happen. What is it going to take? A bridge
to fall and people to be killed, before we try to find a way to
make up the $450 million we need?'' he said.
Peck also said, the state needs to bolster the Department of
Environmental Protection so it can enforce regulations and
properly monitor the expanse of Marcellus shale natural gas
drilling.
``The only agency we have to do this is DEP ... and they've been
cut so bad they can't keep up with what they're doing right
now,'' Peck said. ``How are we going to fund this agency so they
can watchdog this explosion that's happening?''
